Mobile Device Development

With the growing power and sophistication of Mobile Devices (PDA's / Mobile Phones / Tablets) with larger screen sizes, colour screens, WI-FI, audio, video, BlueTooth the feasibility of delivering multimedia/web/RIA content through these technologies to end users is growing day by day.

Streaming video content, website content, multimedia content and RIA's are certainly achievable and practical today.

Significant advantages of developing RIA's in Flex is that whilst HTML5 standards are maturing/developing, you avoid the cross browser issues faced with non compiled applications (ie HTML/JavaScript), avoid extra development costs bought about by cross browser issues, and they can be developed once and multi-tasked and packaged for use on:

  • PC/Mac via Flash Player,
  • for websites via Flash Player,
  • as an AIR desktop application for PC/Mac,
  • Android apps for Android OS based phone/tablet mobile usage
  • iOS devices (ie iPod, iPad, iPhone).

However, where Flash or AIR is not available, or a consistant and manageable browser environment is available, solutions can be developed by utilising combinations of HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, PhoneGap etc to fulfill the requirement.

We work with the client in determining the best approach to meet the requirement.

Android Devices

Developing RIA's in Flex they can also be packaged as Android apps for Android OS based phone/tablet usage leveraging development costs for delivery across multiple platforms.

RIM Playbook

Developing RIA's in Flex they can also be packaged for use on RIM's Playbook device leveraging development costs for delivery across multiple platforms.

iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod)

Developing RIA's in Flex they can also be packaged for use on iOS device (ie iPod, iPad, iPhone) leveraging development costs.

More recently Adobe announced the iOS packager in Flex, that allows the packaging of the same Flash app as an iOS app suitable for iPhone/iPod/iPad - further strengthening the concept of develop once, deliver to multiple devices/platforms leveraging development costs for delivery across multiple platforms.
